Hello! This is my first post on fieldnotes.dog.
You probably don’t know me, but on the off chance you do you may know me from:
- rosey.dev (my very boring “professional” about me site)
- betsyadventures.tumblr.com (a blog I maintained for 12 years, talking about my dog Betsy)
Now I’m here. I want this to be a place where I talk about dog stuff.
Not as a professional giving advice, but as a novice sharing adventures.
I plan to share photos, videos, and small talk about things I’ve been up to with my dog (or dogs maybe but just singular for now).
A bit to know about me:
- I have lived with 6 dogs in my lifetime, but the first 5 were family dogs from when I was a kid.
- My first dog that was fully mine as an adult was Betsy. I owned her for 12 years and she was just so wonderful. I blogged about her a lot as well, on tumblr, right from the moment we brought her home.
- We had a lot of fun together. And we explored a lot of different dog sports/hobbies like agility, nosework, tricks, and advanced obedience. When she died, a piece of me died with her. But I also know that this is part of owning a dog. The day I brought her home I knew that painful day would eventually come, as we all do when we bring home a dog.
- I’ve always been very drawn to the dog world, but I also have a full time job and kids and other interests and am not able to devote 10000% of my energy to dog ownership like some people do.
The current situation:
- I have two school aged kids
- I work full time
- We are bringing home a puppy on April 10th. (that’s in 13 days)
- The last time I raised a puppy was 12 years ago and I had way less going in my life than I do this time.
- We are getting ready!!
Other blogs and dog stuff I consume I’ve been obsessively reading & listening to dog content since I first brought home Betsy. Some of the people I follow -
- eileenanddogs.com
- Kikopup on youtube
- Cog dog radio podcast
- Fenzi dog sports academy
- Patricia Mcconnell’s blog
- Stale cheerios
- Susan Garett
- Michael Ellis
- The canine paradigm podcast
I like to try and stick with positive only training as much as I can. But I’m also interested in following other schools of thought because I think it’s useful to understand and learn from experts in the field even if not all of their techniques resonate with you personally.
